Busy week. Here’s my version of “Bad Manners.”
EXT. DARK, DESERTED ALLEY – EVENING
JACK, a 60-year-old librarian-type, walks nervously through the alley. His footsteps resonate loudly throughout the corridor.
A second pair of footsteps is suddenly heard behind him. Jack nervously flits his eyes about, hyperaware of his surroundings.
TOM, 28-years-old, ominous-looking and dressed in black, appears behind him. Tom raises his GUN to Jack’s back and is about to speak when Jack suddenly spins around and happily addresses him.
JACK
Are you trying to rob me?
TOM
Um, yeah. Don’t--
JACK
--move? Of course, not. I wouldn’t want to get shot.
TOM
Good. Now, put your--
JACK
--hands up. This isn’t the first time I’ve been accosted in a back alley, you know.
Tom, confused and frustrated by Jack’s action, tentatively points the gun at him.
TOM
Give me your--
JACK
--wallet. Like I said, I know the drill.
Jack hands his WALLET to Tom who is paralyzed by confusion.
TOM
And --
JACK
--the watch, the ring. Do you want my shoes as well?
Jack takes off his RING and WATCH and hands it over to Tom who promptly snatches it away.
TOM
Will you shut up and let me--
JACK
--do your job?
TOM
No.
JACK
Have my shoes?
TOM
No.
JACK
Think about the consequences of your actions?
TOM
Now I’ve just lost my --
JACK
--train of thought?
TOM
That’s it, old man.
Tom holds the gun up to Jack’s face and cocks the hammer.
TOM
All you had to do was hand over your stuff. But now you’re just --
JACK
--annoying the shit out of you.
TOM
Will you --
Tom halts and glares at Jack waiting for him to interrupt.
TOM
Please stop--
Tom stares at Jack who stares back with intent to interrupt at any minute.
Tom pauses, looks at Jack suspiciously, and then quickly continues.
TOM & JACK
(simultaneously)
Doing that?
TOM
You know what--
JACK
You’re leaving the life for the role of a more productive citizen?
TOM
That’s it. This is your --
JACK
--last chance?
Frustrated, Tom lays his finger on the trigger and begins to squeeze.
Jack suddenly grabs the gun slipping his thumb in-between the hammer and the chamber.
Tom stands back in surprise as Jack grabs the gun and struggles to pull out his thumb.
TOM
You’re --
JACK
--welcome.
TOM
No. Crazy. You’re a crazy, old son-of-a-bitch.
Jack cocks the hammer and points the gun at Tom.
JACK
May I have my --
Tom throws all of his items back at Jack.
TOM
Here. Take it all back. The wallet. The ring. The watch. I’ve had it.
Jack puts the gun in his pants and returns his possessions to their rightful locations.
JACK
Thank you. Have --
TOM
--a nice day. I know.
JACK
No. That’s not what I was going to say.
TOM
What then?
JACK
Aah, forget it. Damn kids these days never listen.
